Thoughts? Does the cover fit the blurb? Destiny's Kiss - young adult urban fantasy Blurb: Destiny Walker is an exceptional student despite her youth, sullenness, and the werewolf baby she left on a stranger's doorstep. Across the Atlantic, Kismet Baros was a rare mutt of a Magik—essentially immune to magic but nonetheless able to magically modify scents and heal herself—who was under the protection of the vampire court. Only Destiny and the judge who emancipated her know why Kismet no longer exists. When powerful Magiks from Kismet's past come into town to celebrate a classmate's coming of age, Destiny must face her demons. She must decide what she is—person or property—and if she'll sacrifice the few friends she has to save the many. If she doesn't, she'll be the next face to launch a thousand ships. Attachments:

I like the moon, though that's often done in this genre. I like the background, the font, but not the silhouette. Looks like free clip art.

So you don't like the silhouette because it looks like free clip art, or you don't like silhouettes, period? Which silhouette? The front one, back one, or both? Thanks!

I'm not a graphics designer, and I'm still new at this; so take my opinions with a heaping tablespoon of salt.
I like the front silhouette, but I find the back one distracting. The font for the title and series look good and I think the size is good for all the fonts. However, I don't care for the font used for the author. It's blocky compared to the rest of the fonts.

However, I don't care for the font used for the author. It's blocky compared to the rest of the fonts. Hm. Will think chew on that. (The rest is actually all the same font—I just got murderous with the filters in Gimp to adjust it for the title.)

A real picture would be better than a Silhouette, same goes for pregnant girl in the background, would be better as a real person. But the cover is pretty good. Nit picks. keep on keeping on.

That's interesting, thanks. I've avoided pictures because I'd need the same cover model for both girls, with sorta specific clothing styles. And then what about the sequels? I don't see a cover model matching what I'd need without me commissioning the photos myself.

I'm not sure you actually NEED both girls' images on the cover. Why? I find it a bit too much, and visually distracting/confusing. Which one am I supposed to be looking at? I vote for one girl and more simplicity.

As a data point, I didn't even know the background silhouette was supposed to be a pregnant girl until I read the comments. I squinted at it for a bit, but couldn't figure out what it was at all. Agree that the font used for the author's name isn't great. I also agree that actual artwork would be much better than the silhouette(s), but also understand about financial issues, especially if you're going to be doing sequels with the same character. [wry smile] If I'd had several thousand dollars and a year or two of lead time to get on her list, I'd have commissioned Colleen Doran to do the PERFECT action scene for the cover of my novel. Her style is exactly what I was imagining when I wrote the elves-under-the-hill scenes. Having neither several thousand dollars nor anywhere near enough lead time, I ended up with something else, nice but cheap. One works with the resources one has. Angie
