This board is here to provide a gathering place for writers who do NOT believe in the myths of publishing. Writers who believe you can write fast and good. Writers who believe you do not need an agent to sell your work. Writers who know that you can make a living at your craft by working hard, working smart and treating your writing like the business that it is. While we advocate a lot of the points raised by Dean Wesley Smith, he does not run this site. Nothing that I or anyone else posts should be construed as coming from him. If you want to read the man's words, go to his web site www.deanwesleysmith.com This place is for writers with similar attitudes about the business of writing can ask questions of each other and offer advice about what does and does not work for them. The world of publishing is changing at light speed. It's scary and exciting and just a wonderful time to be a writer. Remember: All writers are different. Your mileage may vary. If you need legal advice - ask a lawyer. And don't forget to write something every day.

Any suggestions for topics and/or threads are totally welcome. Any chance of a section for NEWS. Meaning general news that affects and/or is pertinent for authors. Example: Barbara Freethy's SUMMER SECRETS is #1 on the about to be released NYT E-BOOKS list (and #4 on the combined e- and print list). Despite what the Times have listed it as, it's a self-published backlist title. Barbara's story is an empowering one, especially for authors caught in the ongoing midlist crunch. Thanks for the forum. As I can find another place to put this, I'll introduce myself here. I'm and author and a blogger. I love to write but, as I've self- published a book, several novels and some short stories, I find myself involved in the blogging world in a effort to spread the word and learn from others about this difficult form of communications. Every time I turn around, I find something I haven't yet figured out how to do. You are all invited to drop in and visit my blog and yes, I've followed those of you who don't need a Facebook connect to do so. lvcabbie.blogspot.com

Thanks, Mark. I'm a bit fed up of the po-faced 'proper' authors who think that the only way is the traditional way, and that waiting 2 years from contracts signed to seeing your book in print is quite reasonable.
One day, people will understand ...
