You've probably already heard of how John Locke became the first indie author—and the eighth author ever—to hit the Amazon list of 1 million books sold.
You may've even heard about the e-book that John Locke wrote, detailing how he'd hit that many.
Originally, I'd seen his $0.99 price point on his books and thought I don't want to use his tactics.
But I did some poking around, read the sample, read his blog post about it, and realized that hey, he'd sold a million e-books. Would it really hurt to find out how he did that?
So I bought the book. Frankly, I'm glad I did. There were a few things that I'd already figured out that I needed to do, but I was still in the process of figuring out how to do them effectively. His pointers should help, I think.
Anyone else read his book or have thoughts on it?

I've seen the posts for it, but I haven't checked it out yet. If it's as helpful as you say, I just might have to.

I bought it and read it, twice. Exactly the same as marketing for non fiction. He fully explains how to use technology (twitter, facebook, etc) to make friends with his potential readers, and then collect their contact details. He is a fast writer, and from what I have seen, writes about 60 to 70 K word novels. Once he gets word out to his list of readers, word of mouth takes over. First, his writes to a niche audience. Second, he spends a lot of time on twitter and facebook making friends, third, he only blogs once every few months on his blog, but he is writing fast all the time. Forth, he sells at a low price. But, more importantly, he writes books in a series using same characters. What I took from it was to make each story in a series of 3 to 6 novels as good as possible, then get word out that they are ready to purchase after at least 6 are up, and write the next story or series while the last lot are selling. It is worth buying, even if you only utilise part of his process. Also, Randy Ingermanson is discussing each part of Locke's process in his monthly Advanced Fiction Writing E-zine, if you want to take a look. www.advancedfictionwriting.com/ezine/ Check July and August pdf for the first two articles.
