I'm reading The Black Mask Boys which features hard-boiled fiction from the old Black Mask pulp magazine. There is a piece in there from Erle Stanley Gardner who created, among other characters, Perry Mason. In the bio Mr. Gardner is quoted thusly:
"For ten years I kept up this pace of a hundred thousand words a month."
This was while he was working full-time as a lawyer. He slept for just three hours a night!
In 1926 he sold a million words - 97 sales in one year. And you thought you were pushing yourself?

The idea of only three hours of sleep per night makes me want to drop off into a coma right now! Wow. I'm surprised he didn't get himself seriously sick.
Speaking of writing, I need to get cracking on my daily quota myself...
